Drug useful as a nasal mucosa decongestant, particularly in the case of colds.
Actifed tablets are a drug based on:
The synergistic action of these active ingredients provides relief in the case of colds, reducing the symptoms of nasal congestion.
Actifed tablets for colds should be taken according to the following dosage:
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age can take one tablet 2 - 3 times a day with a glass of water.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
It is recommended to not take Actifed on an empty stomach.
Consult your doctor to determine the dose in the elderly due to their greater sensitivity to antihistamines and pseudoephedrine.
Active ingredient: Triprolidine hydrochloride 2.5 mg, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 60.0 mg.
Excipients: Lactose, Corn starch, Povidone, Magnesium stearate.
Actifed cold tablets should not be administered:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before starting a cold treatment with Actifed if you are taking other medications at the same time.
In particular, alcohol, hypnotics, sedatives and tranquilizers and other substances with anticholinergic action can make the effects of antihistamines more evident.
Taking antihistamines can reduce the duration of action of oral anticoagulants.
The use of antihistamines can mask the first signs of ototoxicity (ear toxicity) of certain antibiotics.
Actifed should be avoided in conjunction with furazolidone, which causes progressive inhibition of monoamine oxidase.
The effect of antihypertensives that interfere with the activity of the sympathetic nervous system (e.g., methyldopa, alpha and beta blockers, debrisoquine, guanethidine, bethanidine, and bretylium) can be partially canceled by Actifed, which therefore, in this case too, should not be taken at the same time.
Contact your doctor and discontinue treatment with Actifed if symptoms persist after 7 days of starting treatment, if high fever occurs, or if other side effects are noted.
At common therapeutic doses, antihistamines present side reactions that vary greatly from person to person and from compound to compound.
Although pseudoephedrine did not produce significant effects on blood pressure in normotensive subjects, Actifed should not be taken by patients taking antihypertensives, tricyclic antidepressants, sympathomimetic agents, such as decongestants, appetite suppressants, and amphetamine-like drugs. Actifed should also not be used by patients with severe kidney or liver disease.
Actifed is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
