Food for Special Medical Purposes based on Citicoline, Cognizin®, and Nicotinamide in Oral Solution.
Indications
KRON®, based on Citicoline (Cognizin®) and Nicotinamide, is indicated for the dietary treatment of subjects suffering from glaucoma.
Citicoline replenishes the levels of phosphatidylcholine in the membranes of the optic nerve, one of the most abundant phospholipids in nerve cell membranes, and preserves the levels of cardiolipin and sphingomyelin, components of the internal mitochondrial membrane and the membrane of the axons of retinal ganglion cells, respectively. This structural action is accompanied by an increase in the synthesis of neurotransmitters including acetylcholine and dopamine, involved in the conduction of visual stimuli at both the retinal and post-retinal levels.
KRON® contains Nicotinamide or Vitamin B3, which is a water-soluble vitamin. Nicotinamide is the essential precursor for the synthesis of two redox coenzymes, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) and Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate (NADP). These coenzymes play a key role within the mitochondria in cellular respiration, essential for the production of cellular energy.
Nicotinamide promotes synaptic plasticity and axonal growth and regulates oxidative stress.
The introduction into the diet of subjects suffering from glaucoma of the highly bioavailable oral solution formulation based on Citicoline 40 mg/ml and Nicotinamide 15 mg/ml, thanks to the combined action of its components, can counteract the mechanisms involved in glaucoma, such as apoptosis, retinal and post-retinal neurodegeneration, and mitochondrial dysfunction, positively influencing vision and slowing glaucoma damage.
Each dose of KRON® (5 ml) contains 200 mg of Citicoline (Cognizin®)* and 75 mg of Nicotinamide.

How to use
In general, the recommended dosages are:
- in glaucoma patients with initial or intermediate damage, stable blood pressure and risk of functional and/or structural progression, 10 ml/day in a single administration in the morning, equivalent to 400 mg of Citicoline and 150 mg of Nicotinamide;
- in glaucoma patients with advanced damage, stable blood pressure and high risk of functional and/or structural progression, 2 ... a single administration in the morning, equivalent to 800 mg of Citicoline and 300 mg of Nicotinamide.
It being understood that the appropriate daily dose is established by the specialist doctor according to the health conditions of the subject.
The package contains a measuring cup with a capacity of up to 20 ml. Shake before use.
Store in a cool, dry place. Any variability in color, odor and/or flavor does not compromise the
quality of the product. KRON® can be taken for long periods and without interruptions.
