White mulberry leaves contain a substance called Deoxinojirimycin (DNJ), which significantly reduces the transformation of sugars (polysaccharides) into glucose, thus slowing the absorption of sugars by the blood. Reducing blood sugar concentration also reduces calorie intake, significantly aiding weight loss.    

White mulberry leaves inhibit the activity of alpha-Glucosidase, reducing the action of carbohydrate-digesting enzymes and decreasing the transformation of sugars (polysaccharides) into glucose. This delays the absorption of sugars and reduces postprandial hyperglycemia.
