Product Description

Gel for the local treatment of painful and traumatic conditions of muscles, tendons, joints, or ligaments.

Indications

Voltaren Emulgel 2% is an anti-inflammatory drug available for over-the-counter use indicated for the local and targeted treatment of joint pain from osteoarthritis and back pain. It has a formulation with double the drug concentration of Voltaren Emulgel 1%, to promote skin penetration from which a gradual release into the joint occurs. Provides prolonged relief from morning to evening.

Composition

Active ingredient
100 g of gel contain: 2.32 g of diclofenac diethylammonium (equivalent to 2 g of diclofenac sodium).

Excipients
The other ingredients are: butylhydroxytoluene, carbomers, cocoyl caprylocaprate, diethylamine, isopropyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, macrogol cetostearyl ether, oleic alcohol, propylene glycol, pungent eucalyptus perfume, purified water.

This medicine contains 50 mg of propylene glycol per gram of gel and 0.2 mg of butylhydroxytoluene per gram of gel.

Directions for use and Dosage

For cutaneous use.

Adults over 18 years: Voltaren Emulgel 2% gel provides pain relief for up to 12 hours: Apply Voltaren Emulgel 2% gel twice a day to the area to be treated (preferably in the morning and evening), rubbing in lightly. The amount to be applied depends on the size of the affected area.
For example, 2-4 g of Voltaren Emulgel 2% gel (an amount between the size of a cherry and a walnut) is sufficient to treat an area of ​​400-800 cm².
After application, clean your hands with absorbent paper and then wash them, unless they are the site to be treated.
Absorbent paper should be disposed of in household waste after use.
Patients should wait for Voltaren Emulgel 2% to dry before showering or bathing. Caution: Use only for short periods of treatment.
The duration of treatment depends on the indication and clinical response.
The gel should not be used for more than 1 month. 14 days without medical advice.
Consult your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen after 7 days of treatment.

Warnings

The possibility of systemic adverse events with the application of Voltaren Emulgel 2% cannot be excluded if the preparation is used on large areas of skin and for a prolonged period.
Voltaren Emulgel 2% must be applied only to intact, non-diseased skin and not to skin wounds or open lesions.
It must not be allowed to come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes and must not be ingested.
Discontinue treatment if a skin rash develops after application of the product.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
History of asthma, angioedema, urticaria or acute rhinitis following the intake of acetylsalicylic acid or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
During the third trimester of pregnancy.
Use in children and adolescents under 14 years of age is contraindicated.

Side effects

• allergic reactions including hives;
• angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty swallowing and/or breathing);
• skin rash with the appearance of pustules;
• asthma (difficulty breathing caused by inflammation and narrowing of the bronchi);
• appearance of spots or redness on the skin following exposure to sunlight or sunlamps.

Side effects with unknown frequency

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Diclofenac should not be used during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy unless clearly necessary. If you want to get pregnant or are in the first or second trimester of pregnancy and need to use diclofenac, take the lowest dose of diclofenac for the shortest possible time.

Diclofenac should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy because it may cause harm to the baby and the mother if taken during this period.
Diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts.

However, you should not use Voltaren Emulgel while breastfeeding unless you have first consulted your doctor. If you are breastfeeding, do not apply Voltaren Emulgel to your breasts, large areas of skin, or for long periods of time.

Do not use Voltaren Emulgel 2% if:

• You are allergic to diclofenac or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used to treat pain, fever, or inflammation, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, or any of the other ingredients in this medicine. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction to these medicines may include: wheezing or shortness of breath (asthma); rash with blisters or hives; swelling of the face or tongue; runny nose.
• If you are in the last trimester of pregnancy
• If you are under 14 years old
• If you have other medical conditions or are taking other medicines, including those that do not require a prescription. Always ask your pharmacist or doctor if Voltaren Emulgel 2% is suitable for you. Also, before you start using it, carefully read the product leaflet included in the pack.
• Do not apply to skin if you have cuts, open wounds or if you have a rash or eczema. Stop treatment if a rash develops after applying the product.
