Product Description

Antihemorrhoidal drug for topical use.

Indications

Proctolyn is an ointment for external and internal hemorrhoids, anal and perianal eczema and erythema, anal fissures, anal and perianal itching and burning, and in pre- and post-operative treatment of anorectal surgery.

Proctolyn fissures works thanks to the presence of two active ingredients:

• fluocinolone acetonide (glucocorticoid), which acts against inflammation;
• ketocaine hydrochloride (local anesthetic), which reduces sensitivity in the area where it is applied. 

The drug has a local action, reducing inflammation, redness, itching, anal burning and indirectly reducing the pain.

Composition

One gram of rectal cream contains:

• Active ingredients:0.1 mg of fluocinolone acetonide and 10 mg of ketocaine hydrochloride (equivalent to 8.9 mg of ketocaine).
• Excipients with known effects:1.5 mg of methyl parahydroxybenzoate, 0.5 mg of propyl parahydroxybenzoate, 70 mg of propylene glycol, 50 mg of stearyl alcohol, 50 mg of cetyl alcohol.

Dosage and Directions for Use

Apply 2-3 times a day, a sufficient amount of rectal cream to cover the affected area.

The ointment is indicated:

• for external application, spreading the cream and massaging it lightly;
• for internal application, to be administered using the special cannula inserted in the tube.

Use for short periods of treatment and consult your doctor if the phenomenon recurs repeatedly or if it does not disappear. In children under 12 years of age, Proctolyn should be used only after consulting your doctor and evaluating with him the risks and benefits of the treatment.

Warnings

The topical application of cortisone in excessive doses and for prolonged periods can cause systemic absorption. The use, especially if prolonged, of topical products can cause systemic absorption. give rise to sensitization phenomena. In the presence of a skin infection, appropriate cover therapy should be instituted.

Undesirable effects

During topical corticosteroid therapy, especially for intense and prolonged treatments, the following side effects may occur: burning sensation, itching, irritation.

Proctolyn Pregnancy 

There are no adequate data from the use of fluocinolone acetonide in pregnant women. Therefore, the medicine should be used only if necessary, after evaluating the expected benefit for the mother in relation to the possible risk to the fetus.

When administered systemically, corticosteroids are excreted through breast milk. It is not known whether they are also excreted when administered topically. Therefore, the use of fluocinolone acetonide in pregnant women should be avoided. Topical corticosteroids should be used with caution during breastfeeding.
