Product Description

A drug useful for the treatment of vaginal infections.

Indications

Meclon Vaginal Ovules act on vaginal infections, particularly those caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, also associated with Candida or with bacterial components. Therefore, it is useful in cases of:

• cervicitis;
• cervicovaginitis;
• vaginitis and vulvovaginitis;
• candidiasis.

Cervicitis is an inflammation that develops in the cervix and can be asymptomatic or present with vaginal discharge, bloody discharge after sexual intercourse, or painful urination. It is typically caused by sexually transmitted infections, changes in vaginal flora, or allergies (for example, to latex condoms).

Vaginitis is an infection characterized by clear, foul-smelling discharge, burning, itching, and pain during sexual intercourse. It can be caused by poor intimate hygiene, Trichomonas, Candida, or sexually transmitted.

Composition

A 2.4 g Meclon suppository contains two active ingredients: metronidazole 500 mg and clotrimazole 100 mg.
The combination of clotrimazole and metronidazole is especially effective in treating infections caused by Trichomonas Vaginalis and candidiasis.
Meclon suppositories also contain the following excipients:
Hydrophilic mixture of mono-, di-, and triglycerides of saturated fatty acids.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients.

Dosage

The recommended daily dose is 1 Meclon suppository, inserted directly into the vagina, in a supine position and immediately before bedtime.

Warnings and precautions

After inserting the suppository into the vagina, wash your hands immediately and avoid contact with eyes, as irritation may occur. The recommended concomitant use of oral metronidazole is subject to the contraindications, side effects, and warnings described for the above-mentioned product. Meclon vaginal ovules should be used in early childhood under the direct supervision of a doctor and only when strictly necessary. Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children.

Interactions

Meclon vaginal ovules for candida are generally well-tolerated and no interactions with other medications are known.

Side effects

Given the poor absorption of the active ingredients Metronidazole and Clotrimazole following local application, adverse reactions observed with topical formulations are limited to:

Immune system disorders: Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data): hypersensitivity reactions.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Very rare (frequency <1/10,000): local irritation such as itching, allergic contact dermatitis, rashes.
Any adverse effects should lead to discontinuation of treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, the product should be used only when strictly necessary and under the direct supervision of a doctor.
