Indications
Gaviscon Heartburn and Indigestion neutralizes excess stomach acid and forms a protective barrier that floats on the stomach contents, preventing their reflux.

Active ingredients
Each 10 ml dose (1 sachet) contains sodium alginate 500 mg, sodium bicarbonate 213 mg and calcium carbonate 325 mg.

Directions for use and Dosage
For oral administration.
Adults and children from 12 years of age on: 10–20 ml (1 to 2 sachets) after meals and in the evening before going to bed, up to four times a day.
Children under 12 years: should only be administered on medical advice.
Elderly: It is not necessary to modify the doses for this age group.
Warnings
Each 10 ml dose (1 sachet) contains 127.25 mg (5.53 mmol) of sodium.
This should be taken into consideration in cases where a particularly low-salt diet is recommended, for example in some cases of congestive heart failure and renal impairment.
Each 10 ml dose (1 sachet) contains 130 mg (3.25 mmol) of calcium.
Caution should be exercised when treating patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones.
If symptoms do not improve after seven days, the clinical picture should be reevaluated.
Contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
Prolonged use should be avoided. As with other antacid medicinal products, taking Gaviscon Heartburn & Indigestion in sachets may mask the symptoms of other pre-existing, more serious conditions. severe.
Gaviscon Heartburn and Indigestion in sachets should not be used in the following cases:
- patients with severe impairment of renal function/renal failure.

There is an increased risk of hypernatremia in children with gastroenteritis or suspected renal failure. Treatment of children under 12 years of age is generally not recommended unless prescribed by a doctor.
Contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Interactions
Due to the presence of calcium carbonate which acts as an antacid, it is necessary to consider a time interval of two hours between taking Gaviscon and the administration of other medicinal products, especially antihistamines - H2 blockers, tetracyclines, digoxin, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, tyrosine, penicillamine, beta-blockers (atenonol, metoprolol, propranolol), glucocorticoids, chloroquine and bisphosphonates.
Side effects
Very rarely (<1/10,000) Patients sensitive to the components of the medicine may develop allergic reactions, such as urticaria or bronchospasm, anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions, abdominal pain, itchy skin rash, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
Ingestion of large quantities of calcium carbonate may cause alkalosis, hypercalcemia, acid reflux, milk-alkali syndrome, or constipation.
These symptoms usually occur following ingestion of doses higher than the recommended dose.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment should be used.
The patient may be at increased risk of developing allergic reactions. note abdominal distension.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Open-label controlled studies on 281 pregnant women have not demonstrated any significant adverse effects of Gaviscon on the course of pregnancy or on the health of the fetus/newborn.
Based on this and previous experience, the medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
However, given the presence of calcium carbonate, it is recommended to limit the duration of treatment as much as possible.
Clinical data do not suggest that Gaviscon may have an effect on fertility in humans.
