Indications
Alfa Eye Drops are eye drops indicated for redness, tearing, burning, and itching of the eyes caused by irritants such as excessive exposure to smog, smoke, and dust.
Ingredients and Composition
1 ml of solution contains:
- Active ingredient: Naphazoline nitrate 0.8 mg;
- Excipients: Sodium chloride, Potassium phosphate monobasic, Disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, Hamamelis Virginiana concentrated distilled water, Ethyl alcohol, Camphor, Water for injections.
Directions for use and Dosage
Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye, up to 1-2 times a day, as needed. Strictly follow the recommended doses. In any case, the product should not be used for more than 4 consecutive days, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, as adverse effects may occur.
Warnings
Although the product has poor systemic absorption, it should be used with caution in patients with hypertension, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, bronchial asthma, and hyperglycemia (diabetes). Infections, pus, foreign bodies in the eye, mechanical, chemical, or heat damage require medical attention. The product should be kept out of the reach of children as accidental ingestion may cause CNS depression (marked sedation or hypotonia).
Unlike the Alfa Eye Drops in the 10 ml bottle, the single-dose vials of Alfa Eye Drops can also be used by contact lens wearers, because it does not contain benzalkonium chloride.
Interactions
Alfa Eye Drops should not be used in subjects undergoing treatment with antidepressant drugs (MAOIs) and in the two weeks following such treatment as serious hypertensive crises may occur.
Side effects
The use of the product may sometimes cause pupil dilation, systemic effects from absorption (hypertension, cardiac disorders, hyperglycemia), increased intraocular pressure, nausea, headache. Hypersensitivity reactions may rarely occur. In this case, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor so that, if necessary, appropriate therapy can be instituted. The patient is advised to report any undesirable effects not described to their doctor or pharmacist.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, use only if clearly needed, under the direct supervision of a doctor.
Storage
Eye drops (single-dose container): Store in the original packaging. Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Contains no preservatives; for this reason, once opened, each single-dose container must be discarded after use, even if only partially used.
