Indications
Alfa Antihistamine Eye Drops are indicated for allergic and inflammatory conditions of the conjunctiva, accompanied by photophobia, tearing, and the sensation of foreign bodies.
Composition
Active ingredients
Naphazoline nitrate; thonzylamine hydrochloride.
Excipients
10 ml bottle: Sodium chloride, sodium citrate, monobasic sodium citrate, sodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride, levomenthol, ethyl alcohol, water for injections.
Directions for use and Dosage
Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye, up to 2-3 times a day, as needed.
Strictly adhere to the recommended dose. Excessive dosage, even if taken topically and for a short period of time, can cause serious systemic effects.
If symptoms persist or worsen after a short period of treatment, consult your doctor.
In any case, the product should not be used for more than 4 consecutive days, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, as adverse effects may occur.
Warnings
Although the product has very low systemic absorption, it should be used with caution in patients suffering from hypertension, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, bronchial asthma and hyperglycemia (diabetes).
Infections, pus, foreign bodies in the eye, mechanical, chemical or heat damage require medical intervention.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children as accidental ingestion can cause CNS depression (marked sedation or hypotonia).
Since the product, in the 10 ml bottle, contains benzalkonium chloride, soft contact lenses should not be worn during treatment.
Since benzalkonium chloride is not present in the single-dose package, it can be used by contact lens wearers or by those who are hypersensitive to benzalkonium chloride.
Contraindications
It should not be used by subjects with closed-angle glaucoma or other serious eye diseases.
Hypersensitivity to the components or to other closely related substances from a chemical point of view.
It should not be used in children under twelve years of age.
Interactions
Alfa Antihistamine Eye Drops should not be used if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs or if less than two weeks have passed since the last administration of these medicines, as serious hypertensive crises may occur.
Side effects
The use of the product can sometimes cause pupil dilation, systemic effects from absorption (hypertension, cardiac disorders, hyperglycemia), increased intraocular pressure, nausea, headache.
Hypersensitivity phenomena may rarely occur.
In this case, treatment should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted so that, if necessary, appropriate therapy can be instituted.
The patient is advised to report any undesirable effects not described to their doctor or pharmacist.
Overdose
Strictly adhere to the recommended doses. If accidentally ingested or used for a long time at excessive doses, the product can cause toxic phenomena, especially in children.
Accidental ingestion of the drug can cause CNS depression, even coma, especially in children. In these cases, immediate medical assistance is always necessary: gastric lavage, sedation with diazepam, and general supportive measures.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, use only if strictly necessary, under the direct supervision of a doctor.
