Product Description

Carexidil is a medicine for use on the scalp to combat baldness that contains a medicine called minoxidil.

Indications

Carexidil 5% is indicated for the treatment of some types of baldness (androgenic alopecia), a condition characterized by excessive hair loss, due to the action of certain hormones present in the body
(androgen hormones).

The effectiveness of Carexidil has not been established in the following forms: localized or generalized congenital alopecia; scarring alopecia of various natures (post-traumatic, of psychological or infectious origin); acute diffuse alopecia caused by toxic substances or medications in which hair regrowth is conditioned by the suppression of the specific cause; celsi area.

The onset and intensity of regrowth vary from patient to patient. Since hair grows slowly, you may wait up to 4 months to see the first results of treatment. If you do not notice improvements after this period, contact your doctor.

Composition

Active ingredients

Minoxidil 50 mg

Excipients

Ethanol 96%, glycerol, 2-butenedioic acid polymer with methoxyethene, monobutyl ester, purified water.

Directions for use and Dosage

1. Unscrew the white polypropylene cap. Insert the spray applicator into the bottle and screw it tightly.
2. Attach the extender to the stem, press to secure it firmly.
3. Orient the extender towards the area to be treated, spray once, and distribute Carexidil with your fingertips over the area to be treated. Repeat this operation a total of 10 times to apply a dose of 1 ml of solution.
4. Avoid inhaling the vapors.

Apply Carexidil only to completely dry hair and scalp.
Start the application from the center of the area to be treated and distribute the dose over all affected areas.
Do not apply Carexidil to other areas of the body. Avoid contact with eyes. If this occurs, consult a doctor. If this occurs, wet the affected area with large amounts of cool water.
After applying Carexidil, wash your hands thoroughly.

• Use in children and adolescents: The use of Carexidil is not recommended for children under 18 years of age.
• Special populations:The use of Carexidil is not recommended for patients over 55 years of age.

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This is particularly important if you use medicines that dilate blood vessels (peripheral vasodilators).
Do not use Carexidil together with other medicines applied directly to the scalp (corticosteroids, tretinoin, antralin).

Warnings

Read the package leaflet carefully before starting treatment.

Contraindications

Do not use Carexidil:

• if you are allergic to minoxidil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• if you suffer from heart disease (coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure or valvular heart disease);
• if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Carexidil is not indicated in the following conditions:

• in your family there is no there is a history of hair loss;
• your hair loss is sudden and/or in patches;
• hair loss has been present since birth (congenital alopecia);
• your hair loss is due to childbirth, toxic substances or drugs, scarring (for example after trauma, infectious or psychological causes), or if you do not know the cause;
• you have a red, inflamed, infected or painful scalp.

Side effects

Stop taking Carexidil and consult your doctor immediately if you notice:

• serious allergic reactions which may manifest themselves with skin rashes, swelling of the hands, feet, face, eyes, lips, throat with difficulty breathing (angioedema);
• lowering or increasing blood pressure (hypotension or hypertension), acceleration of the heart beat (tachycardia), sensation of heart in the throat (palpitations), chest pain (possible angina), weakness, dizziness;
• sudden and unexplained weight gain;
• persistent redness or irritation of the scalp (which may also occur due to sensitization phenomena due to prolonged use of the medicine);

Possible side effects

• Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people): Headache;
• Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): Itching at the application site or all over the body and of the eye, skin rash at the application site or all over the body, increased hair (hypertrichosis), increased blood pressure (hypertension), oedema peripheral, dyspnoea (difficulty breathing), dermatitis, dermatitis acneiform, weight gain;
• Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Low blood pressure, irritation, redness (erythema, generalized erythema), swelling (edema), peeling of the skin, eczema, allergic reaction, sensitization, hives, swelling of the face, pain, dermatitis (including contact, application site, allergic, atopic and seborrheic dermatitis), dry skin (including application site dryness), blistering, acne, weakness, dizziness, vertigo, tingling, inflammation of a nerve (neuritis), taste disturbances,
  burning sensation, ear infection, otitis externa, visual disturbances.
• Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): Feeling of heart in the throat (palpitations), rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), bleeding and ulcers, blistering, hair loss (alopecia) or worsening of hair loss, eye irritation, kidney stones, inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), sexual dysfunction.
• Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): Chest pain, temporary hair loss, changes in hair colour, abnormal hair texture, nausea, vomiting, angioedema, hypersensitivity, contact dermatitis.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Do not use Carexidil if you want to become pregnant, during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

Based on current knowledge of this medicine, there are no known effects on the ability to drive or use machines.
However, during treatment with this medicine you may experience some side effects (including, for example, visual disturbances) that could impair your ability to drive or use machines.

Be especially careful before driving if you experience these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Storage

• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
• This medicine does not require any special storage conditions. The shelf life after first opening the container is 30 days under normal conditions of use.
• Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
