Product Description

Drug indicated for the symptomatic treatment of spastic-painful manifestations of the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications

Buscopan is indicated in adults and children over 6 years of age for pain and spasms in the stomach and intestines and biliary tract (where bile, a substance involved in some digestive processes, ends up). It contains the active ingredient hyoscine N-butylbromide, which belongs to a group of medicines called semi-synthetic belladonna alkaloids used for motility disorders of the stomach, intestine and bile ducts (gastrointestinal tract).

Composition

Active ingredients

Hyoscine N-butylbromide 10 mg.
The other ingredients are:
Core: calcium hydrogen phosphate, corn starch, soluble starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, tartaric acid, stearic acid;
Coating: povidone, sucrose, talc, gum arabic, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 6000, carnauba wax, white wax.

How to use and Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 14 years of age is as follows, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor:
Coated tablets
1-2 coated tablets 3 times a day.
The tablets must be swallowed whole with an adequate amount of water.
In pediatrics, in children aged between 6 and 14 years, you must follow your doctor's prescription exactly.
Do not exceed the indicated doses without medical advice.
Use Buscopan only for short periods of treatment.
Consult your doctor if the spasms occur repeatedly or if you have noticed any recent changes in their characteristics.
Do not take Buscopan regularly daily or for prolonged periods without consulting your doctor and without undergoing investigations to find the cause of your abdominal pain.

If you take more than 100 mg of Buscopan, consult your doctor immediately. How much Buscopan should you take?

Symptoms

Warnings

Do not take Buscopan if:

• You are allergic to active ingredient hyoscine N-butylbromide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• You suffer from a severe form of glaucoma, i.e. an eye disease caused by an increase in the pressure of the fluid contained within it;
• You suffer from an enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy);
• You suffer from an inability of the urinary bladder to empty completely (urinary retention);
• You suffer from narrowing of the pylorus, the terminal part of the stomach (pyloric stenosis) or narrowing of other areas of the stomach and intestine (stenosis of other parts of the gastrointestinal tract);
• If you have a blockage in your intestine or if you suspect that you have a blockage in your intestine;
• If you suffer from a disease of the intestine, associated with disturbances of bowel movements (paralytic or obstructive ileus), chronic inflammatory disease of the intestine (ulcerative colitis) and dilation of the colon
  (megacolon);
• If you suffer from a disorder caused by frequent regurgitation of stomach contents into the esophagus, the tube through which food reaches the stomach (reflux esophagitis);
• If you are elderly or if your physical condition is weak and suffers from lack of bowel movements, which causes intestinal obstruction (intestinal atony);
• If you suffer from muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis);
• In children under 6 years of age;
• In case of various hereditary conditions that may be incompatible with an excipient of the product.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe pain in the tummy area (abdominal pain), for no reason, which persists or worsens or is accompanied by symptoms such as fever, nausea, Vomiting, disturbed bowel movements, intestinal tenderness, decreased blood pressure, fainting, or blood in the stool. Use Buscopan with caution:

• If you are elderly;
• If you suffer from a disorder of the nerves that control the correct functioning of glands and organs (autonomic nervous system);
• If you suffer or are predisposed to heart rhythm disorders (cardiac tachyarrhythmias);
• If you suffer from high blood pressure (arterial hypertension);
• If your heart does not have sufficient and adequate strength to pump blood around the body (congestive heart failure);
• If you suffer from an alteration in the functioning of the thyroid which may affect the heart rhythm. cause weight loss, tiredness, weakness (hyperthyroidism);
• If you suffer from liver and/or kidney disease;
• If you are predisposed to a severe form of glaucoma, i.e. an eye disease caused by an increase in the pressure of the fluid contained within it (acute angle glaucoma);
• If you are predisposed to obstruction of the intestinal and urinary tracts (intestinal and urinary stasis);
• If you have a fever.

Children and adolescents

Buscopan should not be given to children under 6 years of age.

Driving vehicles and using machines

Side effects

How to store Buscopan

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after Expiry date stated on the carton after EXP.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
