Indications

Aciclovir cream is indicated for the treatment of skin infections caused by Herpes simplex such as: primary or recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis.

ContraindicationsAciclovir cream is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aciclovir, valaciclovir or any of the excipients.

Dosage

Dosage Aciclovir cream should be applied 5 times a day at approximately 4-hour intervals. Aciclovir cream should be applied to the lesions or areas where infections are developing, as early as possible after the onset of the infection. It is particularly important to begin treatment of recurrent episodes during the prodrome phase or at the first appearance of lesions. Treatment should continue for at least 5 days and up to a maximum of 10 days if healing has not occurred.

Warnings

Aciclovir cream is not recommended for application to mucous membranes, such as those of the mouth, eyes, or vagina, as it may be irritating. Particular care should be taken to avoid accidental introduction into the eyes. In severely immunocompromised patients (e.g., AIDS patients or patients with bone marrow transplants), oral administration of aciclovir should be considered. These patients should be advised to consult their doctor regarding the treatment of any infection. Use of the product, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena; if this occurs, consult your doctor. If this happens, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor. Warnings on some excipients: Methyl parahydroxybenzoate can cause allergic reactions (even delayed).

Undesirable effects

Sometimes, immediately after applying the cream, burning or transient pain may occur. Erythema and moderate dryness and flaking of the skin have been observed in a small percentage of cases.
